The Challenge Of Being A Thanksgiving Guest

November 17, 2011 § Leave a comment

I love this! Where do you fall on this chart? And what will you be bringing? Last year I had graduated from college student to adult (or maybe junior adult ;0) so I took on the stuffing in all of its fatty, carby goodness.  But this year I was told not to bring anything because I have been so busy lately… which is why I decided to ignore the request and bring tiny shortbread cookies to go with the after dinner coffee. It seems simple and tasty and minor enough that no one will reprimand me for disregarding the request not to bring anything at all. And if that falls through, my back-up is booze of some variety (clearly!).

Do you have any advice on being a good guest? Or what your go-to dish to pass is? Please, do tell!

PS- If I were making stuffing this year, I’d want to try this one!

Are you a fan of Nightmare Before Christmas? I love it, but even if you’re not a fan- this is pretty rad!

Happy Halloween!

This Week I Love…

October 28, 2011 § Leave a comment

… Halloween (and candy obviously). Perhaps you may have noticed I have given no mention to Halloween yet this year. I will admit this very unlike me but I have been so busy lately that I took a much simpler route. Rather than freaking out over my costume and running idea after idea past you on the blog I just decided to go with one of last years concepts which I than proceeded order each piece of on Amazon. So that’s all taken care of. The festivities start this evening with a date. Boyfriend and I are going to carve pumpkins, make popcorn over the stove and watch (for his first time!!!) The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Also, we’ve got a costume party this weekend and as usual I will be running around like crazy on the pumpkin farm sharing my enthusiasm for all things fall. What about you? Do you have any Halloween plans? While you hash out the details of your Halloween, check out some links below.

Living in Practical Magic!

Halloween cocktails and homemade adult treats, tasty!

Pac-Man garland, genius!

Black & orange interiors, I’m for ’em.

Martha Stewart Living, a surprise repeater of magazine content. How embarrassing.

Decorating for Halloween with trash bags.

The negative ghostrider.

Eat your heart out. (This looks pretty legit to me!)

A pumpkin punch bowl, very clever.

Like Sands Through The Hour Glass…

August 17, 2011 § Leave a comment

…These are the days of our lives. Sound familiar?!

Anyway, I don’t know if you know this but we’ve only got the last bits of summer left! I am not sure where it all went, it seems to have just slipped away while no one was looking. I would like to make the most of our remaining days and have been wondering what to do all afternoon. Maybe an extra long bike ride is in store. Or a day at the lake. Possibly a cookout. Or just some strong summer cocktails at a cafe with outdoor seating. Perhaps I’ll grab a blanket for a movie in the park night.

What about you? What are you going to do with this last bit of the summer season?

Beach Retreat (II)

June 28, 2011 § Leave a comment

I got lost thinking about a beach retreat and decided I would do a bit of shopping…  err…  more like dreaming. And this is what I’d bring (along with my J.Crew suit).

1. Large Canvas Carry All Bag from American Apparel

2. Freedom by Jonathan Franzen

3. Rosa Valley Pendleton Oversized Jacquard Bath Towel from Urban Outfitters

4. Crosley Solo Radio from Target

5. Aveeno Sunblock Spray (at all major retailers) because the lotion gets so messy!

6. Classic 301 sunglasses from TOMS.

7. Panama Hat from J.Crew

Bonus: Popsicles, and lots of them!

Where Am I?
