Photography by Aaron Ruell

I love Aaron Ruell’s photography because it emphasizes spaces. These people aren’t the picture, at least not the whole picture, but a part of the environment they are sitting in. I think about traditional senior pictures, in which they create a space full of items that represent the student- like golf clubs, a chess set, a trombone, and some bowling trophies and then the plop the student in the center and shoot. Ruell’s work takes the same idea to a more tasteful and humorous level.
