Branding Ireland

March 17, 2010 § Leave a comment

I want to return to the collection of Irish and St. Patrick’s Day ads I posted yesterday because not only has the beer, which is now American, tried to sell the Irish image but so have many ads and without success.

In an effort to raise tourism IrishTimes.com asked four advertising and design agencies to create ads to promote Ireland. Below are the results.

Sociological Images makes a good point:

It’s interesting to look at the themes used to represent Ireland and Irish authenticity, and the marketing of them as “products” (which locations and the people and stereotypes associated with them clearly are when we’re talking about tourism).

While some of these ads make me think, none of them inspire me to travel. Disappointing.
