Leather Sequin Shift Dress

February 23, 2010 § Leave a comment

This is J. Crews leather sequin shift dress, described as such;

An absolute showstopper. Hundreds of shimmering metallic leather sequins—each one carefully cut by hand—are hand-sewn onto lightweight, stretch mesh.

Pretty, right? So I have to ask, what are leather sequins? How do you make sequins out of leather? Chemical treatment? Paint? Is $1800 a reasonable price for leather that has been painted gold?
